NIGERIA'S 49th INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

5:40 PM Reporter: Delords 0 Responses
Today the 1st Of October 2009 marks Nigeria's 49th Independence from the British colony, Nigeria officially became independent from Great Britain on Saturday, October 1, 1960, at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos where Nigeria's First Prime Minister Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa gave a wonderful Independence speech.

It's been 49 years after independence but have Nigerians really lived to their dreams? that's the question on so many people's mind as a result of several issues already facing the country presently and looking at the present state of most people living in Nigeria one would ask if the Independence happened prematurely at a time when Nigeria was not ready to take up itself or if it's that they have seen to forgotten about the efforts of the Founding Fathers who Fought Bravely to secure It's Independence.

Currently, Nigeria is faced With several Threatening Situation which has really pushed and swept it off balance, These Situations ranging from the Present Niger Delta Militancy which has really affected the Nation's Positive Image and reduced its Oil production limits, and pushing away several interesting foreign investors from coming to the country. Also there is the Issue of adject poverty as it was reported that over 70% of Nigerians live below $1 a day, looking at the available mineral resources and manpower in Nigeria one would have thought the people would have been well Prospered but the reverse has always been the case as only those in the leadership position seems to be benefiting from the Available resources in the Country while the Rest of the People keep hoping for the little crunches that might fall from their Tables.

There is also the Situation of the Lingering Strike of the Academic staff union of universities (ASUU) which started on the 22nd of june 2009 and has lasted for almost 4 month with most Students kept at home to frustration, while some will only result to crime and other violence activity as a result of idleness, lots of calls from prominent people has been made to resolve this Educational crises but the Government has really been relunctanly delaying the issues.

There is also the Issue of Corruption to treat which is the number one enemy that has caused the major problems Nigerians are facing today, Nigeria is ranked among the most corrupt countries in the world which has really affected the country's image and left a dark mask on most of its citizens abroad. These corruption which initially started from the various governments both past and present has widely gone deep into the society as everyone now wants to find his or her feet by all means.

There are lots of Saddening Issues that should really mar these years independence celebration because no one goes celebrating while his house is on Fire, but what can we all do to see that these issues gets treated so that we all can start reaping the fruits of a trully independence from the slavery most Nigerians have been enslaved to, this time not from the colonial masters but from the present situations and their Originators.

We all hope for Better days ahead as we Keep Praying for Our Nation and take the responsibility of being good Citizens and build our Nation together as one.

Happy Independence To Us All.
